Shipards Herb Farm - Newsletter
Isabell Shipard in the Sunday Life news paper

What a wonderful day! It is 5 am on the 14th November 2009, the sun is rising on the horizon, sending it rays of warmth over the new day and the birds are singing their songs of delight. Two kookaburras are laughing at the top of their voice… I wonder what joke they just shared.
My heart is full of love, happiness, and gratitude for so many blessings in my life.

People have been asking...

New research of plants...

From the mail box...

Now available again at the Herb Farm...

* Drumstick Trees (Moringa oleifera) which can be trimmed to shrub size; leaves and pods as food; protein 38% with all 8 essential amino acids, making it an excellent alternative to meat. $10 each, or order 5 trees $40 (discount price until end of February 2010)
* Oca / New Zealand Yams (Oxalis tuberosa) 30cm plant, edible leaves and yams. $8 each, or 5 for $35 (discount price until end of February 2010)
Both these plants would make practical gifts for Christmas or Birthday gift giving.

And many people have bought the Herb Book, Sprout Book or Self-sufficiency Book to give as gifts. We often have recipients ring the Herb Farm, and say, how delighted they were to receive a book as a gift. 10% discount is current for orders placed of 5 or more books and dvds.

Arracacha plants and Panama Berries are not available at present, but we are endeavouring to catch up with orders already placed.

* And people have been asking when will I teach some courses… maybe mid- 2010; which I thought should major on self-sufficiency, but would include the most useful herbs to grow and also the benefits of sprouts in daily life.

Something to think about...

Seven Wonders of the World
A group of students were asked to list what they thought were the present “Seven Wonders of the World”. Most students listed
1. Egypt’s Great Pyramids
2. Taj Mahal
3. Grand Canyon
4. Panama Canal
5. Empire State Building
6. St. Peter’s Basilica
7. China’s Great Wall
The teacher noticed that one student had not finished her paper. So the teacher asked if she was having trouble with her list.
The girl replied, “Yes, a little, I couldn’t quite make up my mind because there are so many.” The teacher said, “Well, tell us what you have and maybe we can help”. The girl hesitated, and then read, “I think the ‘Seven Wonders of the World’ are:
1. To see
2. To hear
3. To touch
4. To taste
5. To feel
6. To laugh
7. To love
The room was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. The things we overlook as simple and ordinary, and that we take for granted are truly wondrous!
Perhaps a reminder to us all, that the most precious things in life, cannot be built by hand, or bought by man.
